Writer's Block: Starting Out Fresh

Many people believe that what you do on New Year's Day sets the tone for your entire year. How did you spend the first day of 2009? Do you think it will influence the rest of the year?

View 500 Answers

I slept a WHOLE lot..  and spent time with family and friends.

I don't think it will influence my entire year.  I hope the part about spending time with family and friends does.  I doubt I will spend a lot of time sleeping though - I have so much planned for this year!

Writer's Block: Gone but Not Forgotten

Many beloved television shows are no longer with us, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. What defunct television show do you miss the most?

Definitely Six Feet Under.  I loved that show!

Writer's Block: Meat Cake

Happy birthday, Humane Society of the United States! A staffer here at LJ loves her dog so much that she made her a meat cake for her birthday. What's the most elaborate (and possibly not justifiable to non-pet owners) thing you've ever done for your pet?

View 217 Answers

I threw my dog a birthday party this year.  With a doggie cake and goodies for his little furry friends.

I normally do "celebrate" his birthday with some kind of cupcake and a hat.

But this year I took it a little further since a lot of my friends have dogs.  I believe there were a total of 7 dogs at my house.  And I must say it was a rather good time.

They ran around and played, and amused us humans.  They had cake (which, thankfully, they liked!).  And they took home some "doggie bags" ;)

Writer's Block: Technology Lends a Helping Hand

Santa has it easy what with all those elves and reindeer lending him a helping hand (and hooves), but we have technology to make our lives easier. How does technology make your holiday shopping and planning easier?

It makes it so easy that I'm pretty much done with my gift shopping.  On Halloween, I sat at my desk (at work... I wasn't very busy) and bought pretty much everything.  I'm only missing 4 or 5 gifts.

In reality, I like to go shopping for people.  But I don't like overcrowded malls/shops.  So for holiday shopping, I prefer to do it online.

Writer's Block: Eat, Drink, Be Merry

Thanksgiving is almost here in the U.S., heralding the start of the holiday season and the first of many meals where you might be confronted with a traditional dish that you happen to find disgusting. What holiday food do you hate to see on the table?

View 500 Answers

Anything with raisins.  Especially stuffing.  i love stuffing, but it should NOT have raisins in it.

And cranberry/cranberry sauce.  They're red and gelatinous... gross.

Things I've Learned Recently

- People are strange

- Dreams are weird and confusing

- Sometimes even people you think you can trust, you really can't

- Good friends are there for you no matter what's going on with ther lives

- If you truly love someone, that love never goes away.  No matter the distance between hearts or minds.

Writer's Block: The Season of Giving

The holidays are right around the corner, which means gift-giving (and buying) season is upon us. When do you usually purchase your gifts? What are the benefits/disadvantages of buying when you do?

Normally I do most of my shopping a week or two before christmas.  However, this year I started WAY early, and I'm pretty much done.  I just have a few things left to get.  For the first time, I did almost all my shopping online.

I would've preferred to make handmade gifts again like I did last year.  But I have no time this year :(

Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

From Judy Blume to V.C. Andrews, there's always a book circulating among teens that their parents don't want them to read. What favorite book did you have to hide from your parents?

View 503 Answers

I don't think I ever hid any books from my parents when I was younger.  They knew I read RL Stine.  They thought I was weird for liking that stuff, but they never tried to make me stop, that I can remember.

The only book I recall ever having to hide is The Satanic Bible, because my mom would freak if she saw it.  And, no, it's not what you think.  I read it like I would read any other book, religious or not, with a grain of salt.   I believe my brother hid his copy as well.

Writer's Block: Secret Crush

Everyone knows having a crush at the office or in class can make the time pass a little bit quicker. Is it better to keep your crush a secret or tell them how you feel?

View 501 Answers

I wouldn't tell someone at work that I'm interested in them.  In school... I think that has always played a big part in the middle school/high school years... so I don't think there's a problem with that.

Writer's Block: Cryptozoology

Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, el chupacabra—what is your favorite creature that may or may not exist?

View 501 Answers

I've always been fascinated by the Loch Ness Monster.  I think mostly because in the photos that exist of the supposed monster, it resembles a Brontasaurus (now known as the Apatosaurus), is one of my favorite dinosaurs.

If it exists, I'd like to meet it one day :)  I don't think it would be a monster at all, at least not in the scary sense... I picture it being more like the creature from The Water Horse.

Writer's Block: A.A. Milne

Some people find Eeyore’s gloomy outlook charming. Others prefer the bouncy enthusiasm of Tigger. Who would you rather be trapped in an elevator with: Eeyore or Tigger?

View 501 Answers

Eeyore is actually my favorite character :)  I have quite a bit of Eeyore paraphanelia.  So I would definitely like to be stuck with him.  I feel I'd have better, deeper conversation with him.  That and I could entertain myself by playing pin the tail ont he donkey :D  Tigger would get on my nerves after like 2 minutes.

Writer's Block: Work Clothes

Remember the bodysuit? Fashion designer Donna Karan, who changed the way career women dressed in the 1980s, turns 60 today. Office dress codes have relaxed since then, but every workplace has its own rules. What passes for appropriate where you work? Is there anything you can't wear to work?

View 495 Answers

Though there is a dress code policy, it's not totally enforced.  There are still people who wear flip flops and tanks to work.  They've never handed out the policy during the two years that I've worked here, that I can recall.

Basically - no jeans, no spaghetti-strap tanks, no flip flops/beach sandals, no jeans (unless it's payday friday when we have our fundraisers and pay to wear jeans), no shorts, no short skirts (personally, I won't wear any skirt to work that rises 2 inches above the knee... I try to keep it to the knee or below), no extra-revealing shirts.

I think it says something about no clothing with metal stuff on it... that could mess up furniture, etc.  That might be just for the students... I can't remember.

What's crazy is they want to implement uniforms.  I work in a high school... so you can only imagine how the students (and staff!) are going to react to that...

Patience

Good things come to those who wait, right?

I've waited... Something good came.

I'm still being patient.

I hope it stays.

So I think...

the Universe may have finally answered one of my... "wishes" for lack of a better word.  And if it has, it definitely listened to me for the most part.

And I hope I'm right... it would make me happy :D  And my year will definitely be better for it!

Writer's Block: The Expendable Sense(s)

If you had to give up one of your five senses, which could you live without?

Submitted By [info]newbiepoet

That's a rather difficult one.  I would say taste.  I mean, I love food and all, but....

Hearing - I can't live without music
Seeing - I want to see the beautiful things in the world
Feeling - I love to feel things... warm and cuddly things, strong arms, etc.
Smelling - Smells can bring about memories and emotions
Taste - I can deal without

Writer's Block: Favorite Lyrics

What song lyrics would you love to have written, and why?

View 506 Answers

I'm really into music, so there's a whole lot of lyrics that I would have loved to have written... but two would have to be the following.  They are two of my fave songs... and I can totally relate to how the singer feels and what they are trying to say.

Nicest Thing - Kate Nash

All I know is that you're so nice
You're the nicest thing I've seen
I wish that we could give it a go
See if we could be something

I wish I was your favourite girl
I wish you thought I was the reason you are in the world
I wish my smile was your favourite kind of smile
I wish the way that I dressed was your favourite kind of style

I wish you couldn't figure me out
But you always wanna know what I was about
I wish you'd hold my hand
When I was upset
I wish you'd never forget
The look on my face when we first met

I wish you had a favourite beauty spot
That you loved secretly
'Cause it was on a hidden bit
That nobody else could see
Basically, I wish that you loved me
I wish that you needed me
I wish that you knew when I said two sugars,
Actually I meant three

I wish that without me your heart would break
I wish that without me you'd be spending the rest of your nights awake
I wish that without me you couldn't eat
I wish I was the last thing on your mind before you went to sleep

Look, all I know is that you're the nicest thing I've ever seen
And I wish that we could see if we could be something
Yeah I wish that we could see if we could be something

My Favourite Book - Stars

I was always late, you never afraid, that we could be falling
All our friends would say, maybe we should wait, but they can't see what's coming
And to this day, when everything breaks, you are the anchor that holds me

And that is why we'll always make it

How I know your face, all the ways you move, you come in, I can read you
You're my favourite book
All the things you say, the way you shift your eyes
I never knew there was someone, to make me come alive

When the days are long, and the thunder with the storm, can always get me crying
You can make my bed, I'll fall into it, shattered but not lonely
Because I never knew a home, until I found your hands, when I'm weathered
You come to me, you're my best friend

And that is why we'll always make it

How I know your face, all the ways you move, you come in, I can read you
You're my favourite book
All the things you say, the way you shift your eyes
I never knew there was someone, to make me come alive

And when we're making love
I'd give up everything up for your touch

How I know your face, all the ways you move, you come in, I can read you
You're my favourite book
All the things you say, the way you shift your eyes
I never knew there was someone, to make me come alive

When you go to work all the day I wait
For you to come home, recount our time, in our little place

Writer's Block: Where the Cheese Goes

What should cheese go on, and what should cheese NOT go on?

View 501 Answers

I love cheese.  All kinds of cheese.  It goes great on crackers, with apples and bananas and fruta bomba, on bread, on sandwiches, on burgers, on pasta, in omelettes...

So I'm not quite sure what it SHOULDN'T go on... i guess anything else.
